The island of Madeira is located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and it occupies an area with about 741 km2. The distance of the continental Portuguese coast is of 1.000 km, being closer of the African continent, about 700km.

Its name is originates from its dense forest that the Portuguese discoverers found, in their passage for the island, about 1420, one year later than the landing in Porto Santo, the other inhabited island of the Archipelago of Madeira. There are, still, other uninhabited islands that constitute rich flora reservations and fauna, nominated, the Desertas and Salvagens.

The capital is the city of Funchal, placed in the south coast of Madeira, with a population at about 120.000 inhabitants. There are still 4 more cities: Machico, Santa Cruz, Câmara de Lobos and Santana. As all the beautiful places they have its legends and mysteries. In Machico, for example, we savoured Robert Machim's legend and Ana D´Arfet, a couple of shipwrecks, passionate, that they would have found, in this stops, its last refuge, before the Portuguese discoverers' arrival.

Madeira is, at present, very known by its natural beauty and its temperate climate makes, of this Archipelago, a very sought destiny, during the whole year.

The Roca Mar is located in the south coast of the island of Madeira, in the tourist zone of Caniço de Baixo, located between the city of Funchal and Santa Cruz's city. From here, you can enjoy a beautiful and resting view, on the limpid waters of the Atlantic Ocean. We have good accesses to the sea and a great solar exhibition, during the whole year. Take advantage of the pleasant temperatures that you will find here. It is of referring that the air temperatures are on the average of 23ºC, being the minimum of 17ºC and the maxim of 28ºC. With relationship to the temperature of the water the average is of 19ºC, the minimum 16ºC and the maxim 24ºC.
